This is a volunteer assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program, an Australian Government initiative. Airfares, living allowances, accommodation, insurance and other support is provided through the program.
The province of Antique is surrounded by long stretches of coast. There are numerous water safety incidents each year, but no lifesaving service is available.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council is seeking an AVID volunteer to help its staff and volunteers develop skills in water safety and life saving.
The volunteer will develop and trial training modules in water safety, as well as activities to engage with local communities and raise awareness of water safety practices. It is hoped that staff and volunteers will be able to share the skills they develop with different local government units and communities.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Experience in lifeguarding, lifesaving or beach safety, preferable with some experience in a leadership role
- Experience in delivering and/or developing training programs, particularly in drowning prevention
- Qualifications in lifeguarding
- Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
