Country: Vanuatu
Closing date: 11 May 2015
This is a volunteer assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program, an Australian Government initiative. Airfares, living allowances, accommodation, insurance and other support is provided through the program.
Vanuatu comprises 82 separate islands spread over 1200 kilometres, yet there is no national strategy in place to prevent drowning and increase community awareness around water safety.

The successful applicant will work with Vanuatu Red Cross staff to review, trial and finalise resuscitation and water safety modules and resources, as well as first aid materials relevant to the program. They will also help first aid training staff, community liaison officers and service providers of water-based activities to increase their confidence in educating the community about water safety, drowning prevention, and resuscitation techniques.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Experience in developing first aid programs, including training initiatives, and reviewing and developing policy and procedures
- Experience working with a water safety organisation and/or knowledge of water safety and drowning prevention issues
- Accreditation as a senior first aid instructor
- Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
