NGO Niños de Guatemala is looking for a Finance Manager to lead and further develop its finance department in Guatemala. The Finance Manager functions at a leadership level, where they advise, guide, coach, initiate, and give direction to the finance department of NDG Guatemala. The NGO currently employs 52 people and has a yearly budget of approximately $ 400.000.
The organization currently consists of four entities: NDG Guatemala, NDG Netherlands, NDG France and the US based Friends of NDG. The three non-Guatemalan based entities support NDG Guatemala amongst other monetary donations. NDG Guatemala consists of the Antigua office, two primary schools in Ciudad Vieja and San Lorenzo El Cubo and a middle school in Ciudad Vieja for which is currently being constructed.
The Finance Manager works directly with the General Manager and liaises on financial matters with all heads of their respective units: Directors of both primary schools and middle school, the Income Generation Manager and the Middle School Project Manager. The Finance Manager plays a pivotal role with respect to all financial matters and takes a lead roll in all financial operations. Furthermore, the Finance Manager leads the finance department in the Antigua office by guiding, steering, and coaching the finance employees.
In their role, the Finance Manager will also take on simplifying financial processes and communicating with the three other NDG branches (Netherlands, France, and the USA). Niños de Guatemala is a fast growing organization striving for professionalization. This growth is especially prevalent and important in all financial processes. Furthermore, the focus of NDG Guatemala is to increase financial independence and self-sustainability through implementing and partnering with profit-for-non-profit social businesses where financial guidance is also needed. The Finance Manager develops a clear plan for NDG Guatemala’s financial independence and challenges during this process.
Job description
➢ Leading NDG Guatemala’s finance department to further professionalization and transparency.
➢ Managing through guidance and coaching of NDG finance employees.
➢ Steering and stimulating the financial course of the organization in conjunction with the General manager with respect to (1) financial goals, (2) financial efficiency (3) cooperation related to financial matters between all NDG branches
➢ Advising the General Manager on all finance and legal processes
➢ Monitoring NDG Guatemala's financial operations and maintaining financial stability and accountability – including the finances of the independently operating schools
➢ Statistical database management for the monitoring of project health and effectiveness
We ask for:
➢ A professional with proven financial experience (preferably in profit as well as a non-profit sectors).
➢ At least intermediate Spanish and fluent English language skills.
➢ Academic background in finance, business, economics or mathematics.
➢ Excellent MS Excel skills – knowledge of accounting systems like QuickBooks preferred.
➢ Excellent understanding of finance, accounting, and financial reports.
➢ Excellent numerical skills.
➢ Affinity with Niños de Guatemala and its goals and missions.
➢ Preferred previous employment history in Central or South America.
➢ A self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, willing to make a difference and willing to put a lot (of effort and energy) into the project.
➢ At least 2 years available for full time activities in Guatemala, starting June 2015.
